Compañía Fantástica Mini: Madrid fashion for kids who already have their own style

There's a tricky age in any child's wardrobe. They no longer want the same old things, but they also don't want what adults wear. They have discernment, they have opinions, and the clothes you put on them matter. A lot. Dressing them well from ages 8, 9, 10 without falling into childishness or premature adulthood is one of the most real challenges for any family. Compañía Fantástica Mini solves it better than almost anyone.

A brand from here, from the next neighborhood over

Compañía Fantástica was founded in 2000 by siblings Jaime and María Nieto, based in Madrid. What started as a colorful family store in one of Madrid's districts eventually became one of the most recognizable Spanish brands for its prints and embrace of color. In 2021, after more than two decades of success in women's fashion, they ventured into the children's market with Compañía Fantástica Mini, a line aimed at children aged 4 to 12.

For us at Älva, being in Malasaña, having Compañía Fantástica Mini is almost like having a local neighbor: their flagship store is in Chueca, a ten-minute walk away. Two Madrid stores, two neighborhoods with personality, one shared philosophy.

Color as language, prints as identity

The brand defines itself as fun, irreverent, and unforgettable, with a strong urban character and visual strength. In the Mini line, this translates into garments with prints that children choose themselves – not because they wear them, but because they want them. Stripes, geometric patterns, animal prints, colors that don't ask for permission. Clothes that have personality before you even put them on.

Although Compañía Fantástica's adult line is primarily feminine, the Mini collection is perfectly unisex. No separate sections, no assigned colors. The print is the star, the same for everyone.

Coordinated mother and child looks – without looking like a costume

One of the most sought-after and difficult things to achieve: for mother and child to wear the same print without looking like a family uniform. Compañía Fantástica's prints allow this naturally – the same fabric, each in its own version, with its own cut and attitude.

And if you want to complete the mother's look, we recommend visiting La Pizarra del Señor Lolo, a beautiful store on the neighboring Espíritu Santo street. That's the thing about Malasaña: in three blocks, you can dress the whole family with discernment.

Solving the toughest challenge: ages 10, 11, 12

Here lies Compañía Fantástica Mini's biggest advantage: it goes up to size 12-13 years. That age range where conventional children's fashion falls short and adult fashion is too advanced. Neither clothes with baby drawings nor garments that sexualize prematurely. Simply clothes with design, with color, and with just the right attitude for a boy or girl who already knows what they like.

That's not easy to find. At Älva, we have it.
